Timbaland Says He Dreamed Aaliyah Told Him Tink Is "The One"
“I was riding home one day, asleep,” Timabaland says. “She spoke to me in my sleep and said, ‘[Tink’s] the one.'”
With her debut album set to be released at some point in 2015, 19-year old Chicago rapper Tink still has her biggest advocate in super producer Timbaland. Last year Timbo drew attention to Tink by signing her to hisMosley Music Group label and then taking to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club to share an unreleased version of Rick Ross and Jay Z’s “Movin Bass” on which she features.
Last night, Timbaland kept up the support as Tink’s hypeman at Fader’s final SXSW showcase of the year. During a performance that started with a deejay set and led to the live premiere of new music from Tink, Timbaland stopped the show to explain why he believes so strongly in his new protege’s potential. Sparked by the debut of a new song that features a sample of Aaliyah’s “One In A Million,” Timbaland told the crowd why he took the unusual step of repurposing music from the Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number star for his new artist.
“I don’t touch Baby Girl’s records—y’all know that’s Aaliyah,” Timbaland said during the show. “I was riding home one day, asleep. She spoke to me in my sleep and said, ‘She’s the one.'”
