Fox Sports found itself in hot water with NFL fans — and especially Taylor Swift’s devoted fanbase — after airing an unusual skit during its pregame coverage of last Sunday’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The segment, presented as a parody movie trailer, attempted to poke fun at the high-profile romance between Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift. Titled “My Big Fat Chiefs Wedding” — a spin on the banger 2002 rom-com My Big Fat Greek Wedding — the piece leaned heavily on exaggerated tropes and over-the-leading humor. But for many viewers, it completely missed the mark.
Inside the Skit
The faux trailer opened with a dramatic voiceover declaring: “She’s one of the most successful musical artists in the world, and he’s six-foot-five. But somehow, they still found love.” The narration was interspersed with clips referencing Swift’s suburban Philadelphia roots and her growing connection to the NFL world since her relationship with Kelce began.
At one point, an actor playing a parody version of Kelce appeared on screen, bluntly announcing: “Hey guys, it’s me, Travis Kelce. Guess what? I’m getting married.” The skit then spiraled into more tongue-in-cheek jokes, including a cameo appearance from NSYNC’s Joey Fatone via FaceTime. Fatone deadpanned, “No, I’m not doing this. I’m a Giants fan.” The fake Kelce character fired back with a Backstreet Boys reference: “Well, I’m a Backstreet Boys fan. Bye bye bye.”

Swifties and NFL Fans Lash Out
Instead of laughing along, both football fans and Swift’s loyal following quickly lit up social media to criticize the segment. One viewer on X wrote, “As soon as it started, I just turned the channel.” Another blasted the creative process behind the skit, posting: “I have to imagine some illegal substances and cold pizza at 2 a.m. were involved in the planning and maybe even the execution of this.”
Popular sports media watchdog Awful Announcing labeled the bit “a tough movie,” while countless other posts called it “pathetic,” “cringe,” and “embarrassing.”
The backlash highlights just how sensitive Swift’s global fanbase — known as the “Swifties” — can be when it comes to portrayals of the singer. With Swift and Kelce’s engagement confirmed just before the start of the 2025 NFL season, the couple’s relationship is already one of the most scrutinized storylines in both sports and entertainment.

Kelce Stays Above the Noise
Ironically, while the parody trailer drew ire, Fox’s actual interview with Kelce during the broadcast was warmly received. Speaking with Erin Andrews, the All-Pro tight end opened up about his engagement.
“It’s been an exciting, exciting ride up to this day,” Kelce said. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”
His genuine words stood in stark contrast to the awkward skit that had aired earlier in the program — an unflattering reminder that not all attempts to blend sports, comedy, and celebrity land the way producers intend.
