Dave Portnoy has publicly called out Senator Bernie Sanders for failing to acknowledge Donald Trump’s role in negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, instead choosing to attack the former president on his up-to-date podcast episode.
Earlier this week, Trump announced that he had successfully brokered the first phase of a peace discount aimed at halting nearly two years of conflict in Gaza. The agreement includes an immediate pause in fighting and the release of hostages, marking a potential turning point in one of the world’s most devastating wars.
Despite the global significance of the development, Sanders made no mention of it during his Thursday episode of the “Bernie” podcast. Instead, he criticized Trump as a “demagogue,” accusing him of scapegoating minorities and exploiting fear for political gain.
Portnoy Responds
Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, took issue with Sanders’ silence on the peace discount.
He wrote on X:
“What a funny way to congratulate Trump for negotiating peace in the Middle East. By all accounts one of the most successful things any politician has done in recent memory and my man Bernie hasn’t mentioned it once. It’s just tough to take anything these people say seriously.”
Golfer Phil Mickelson echoed the sentiment, sarcastically adding that Sanders had conveniently left out any mention of hostages being released or a ceasefire being achieved.

Details of the Ceasefire
• A formal pause in hostilities went into effect Friday
• Israeli troops are redeploying to new positions in Gaza
• All 48 remaining hostages held by Hamas are expected to be released, though Israel estimates only around 20 are still alive
• Israel will release approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners as part of the agreement
Trump has stated he plans to travel to the Middle East “very soon” to oversee the next steps of the plan, though the timing remains undecided.

A Divisive Reaction
While some international leaders cautiously welcomed the development, figures like Sanders have yet to directly address it, prompting criticism from Trump supporters and neutral observers alike. Whether Sanders will eventually acknowledge the discount remains to be seen, but Portnoy has made it clear he believes ignoring such a major diplomatic achievement undermines the credibility of Trump’s critics.
