2 Minute Drill: Are the Sox back?
SportsCenter 52 minute drill. The Red Sox are good. How about that? Well, are they though? And this is the question that we’ve been asking here in the sports office. Are the Boston Red Sox really back? This is as good as we’ve seen them in probably the last 3 years, but let’s go to the trade deadline because I think this is really interesting. The entire trade deadline and afterwards, Craig Breslow and the Red Sox have come out. Said we’re being really aggressive or we’ve been very aggressive trying to bring in new players. Well, they only managed to bring in two, *** reliever who could be pretty good, that’s Stephen Matts. And then you’ve got *** starter who was about to get relegated to the bullpen in LA. That’s Dustin May. Those don’t seem like two impact players to me. And if you look at teams like the Yankees who brought in enough players to make their own separate ball club just from the trade deadline. Really doesn’t look like the Red Sox have done that much, but then they have this 3 game series against Houston this weekend and it’s like, hey, wait, maybe they’re doing something. They were 17-7 in July. You think, don’t rock the boat. Let’s not make too many big changes in the in this clubhouse, keep the momentum going. Seems to have worked against the leaders in the American League West, but immediately look at the future. If you end up in September, let’s say you do secure *** wild card spot and you’re just, just ***. Little bit far away from beating out teams like the Toronto Blue Jays, immediately you wonder what could you have done if you did bring in Joe Ryan, if you did spring for another player. I wonder if the Red Sox overvalued the players they had instead of what other teams are valuing them as. When you come out and say that you were too aggressive and that other teams were telling you to back off, you’re effectively saying that you think your players are better than what they actually are. That’s the reality with the Boston Red Sox. Let’s say they do manage to make *** deep run into October. It’s *** Cinderella story because this team was not supposed to do that if you go back to August. Yes, the signings of Alex Bergman, the signing of Alex Bergman was fantastic. There’s no other way to put that, and their pitching has been better, but this is not *** World Series ball club, and if I’m wrong, I kinda wanna be wrong. I’m Angel Salcido. That’s the 2 minute draw.
The Boston Red Sox are good — really good — but are they back?
