BOSTON — Romy Gonzalez again will start at second base for the Red Sox vs. a right-handed starting pitcher Tuesday.
The Red Sox and Guardians will play the second game of their series at 6:45 p.m. here at Fenway Park. Boston won the series opener, 6-4.
Gonzalez, a right-handed hitter who’s known for his success against lefties, has been hitting righties well lately. His recent success includes a go-ahead RBI single against Orioles righty Rico Garcia in the eighth inning of last Thursday’s win.
He also had two RBI singles against two different Pirates right-handed pitchers Saturday.
Ace Garrett Crochet (14-5, 2.40 ERA) will start opposite right-hander Slade Cecconi (5-6, 4.41 ERA).
Nathaniel Lowe is at first base and batting fifth vs. Cecconi. Masataka Yoshida, despite struggling with a .224 batting average, will serve as DH. He’s batting seventh.
