Amy Dowden has announced that she will undergo a second mastectomy this week. However, she has told fans that it isn’t to treat “a second cancer diagnosis”.
The star revealed last month that doctors had found “specks” on her other breast. It came after she was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2023. She underwent a single mastectomy and chemotherapy and was told there was no evidence of disease in early 2024.
immediately, following tests, Amy has revealed that she is headed back into hospital for the operation, so won’t be on Strictly Come Dancing until she has recovered.

Amy Dowden to undergo second mastectomy this week
In a post on Instagram earlier this morning (November 3), Amy could be seen sitting on her sofa at home, stroking her dog.
She captioned the post: “Hey everyone. As you all know, I’ve always been very open about my health and the care I receive. So I’d like to start by being clear what I am about to share is not to treat a new cancer diagnosis.
“However, following a recent appointment with my incredible medical team, we’ve decided that I’ll be having another mastectomy this week.”
She added: “They’re confident that, all going well, I can expect a straightforward recovery. Once I have healed I look forward to rejoining my Strictly family. Of course I’m going to miss not being there so much but I will be watching from home and look forward to cheering everyone on.”
She ended the post by saying: “Thank you always for all the support. Welsh love Amy xxx.”
‘Sending lots of love’
Amy was quickly supported by her Strictly family.
Karen Hauer said: “Sending all the love.” Jowita Przystal posted: “Sending lots of love.” Former partner Tom Fletcher also sent Amy his well wishes. He said: “All the love to you my wonderful friend.” His wife Giovanna Fletcher added: “Love you!”
Although Amy is no longer in the competition following her elimination in Week 2 with partner Thomas Skinner, she has been a regular in the Clauditorium. And she was present in the studio on Saturday night to movie all the Halloween action.
