Zubeen Garg Funeral: The body of singer Zubeen Garg was consigned to flames in the beautiful setting of Kamarkuchi, which is outside of Guwahati, Assam, as Vedic hymns were being chanted. Amid gun salutes, his sister Palme Borthakur and the singer’s protégé Rahul Gautam, a track composer, lit the pyre. Everyone in the area rose up as they circled the pyre seven times under the guidance of priests.
Zubeen’s wife cries inconsolably
Garima Saikia Garg, Zubeen’s wife, was seated on the side of the stage where his last rites were conducted and was observed crying during the ceremonies. Slogans such as “Zubeen, Zubeen” echoed through the air as the smoke from the fires rose up, and his song “Mayabini Ratir buku” was heard being sung.
Netizens were moved to tears when they witnessed Garima Garg making a symbolic remembrance for her late husband. She placed betel leaf and betel nut, two of the famed singer’s favourite indulgences, as his last memory. With his preferred offerings, the gesture was a very personal homage to Zubeen.

Following the tributes to the popular singer, the Assam Police offered him a gun salute and blew the bugle.
As conch shells were blown and Vedic hymns were chanted, Garg’s lifeless remains were carried to a platform and set on the fire.
Family carried out Vedic rites
While Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiren Rijiju, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid wood on the fire, the family carried out certain Vedic rites.
A branch of the sandalwood tree, which Zubeen had planted for his birthday in 2017, was placed on the pyre.
