Based on the 1985 movie, the production follows Marty McFly as he travels back to 1955 in a time machine built by Doc Brown, where he must ensure his parents fall in love to preserve his own existence. Written by Bob Gale, the stage adaptation features new beat and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award winner Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy winner Glen Ballard, alongside classics from the film such as ‘The Power of Love’ and ‘Johnny B Goode.’
Lead producer Colin Ingram, working alongside Back to the Future creators Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, said: “I’m so delighted that the DeLorean will be travelling 88 mph to all the main theatre cities in the UK so that we can bring this heartfelt spectacle of a show to those who haven’t seen it in the West End or want to see it again. Great Scott! Audiences are going to have such a fun and thrilling ride in a show which will tour in all its glory and be one of the biggest sets to come out on the road.”
The musical continues its West End at the Adelphi Theatre, where it is entering its fifth year, having broken box office records and entertained more than two million people since its 2021 premiere.
The show is directed by Tony Award-winner John Rando, with set and costume design by Tim Hatley, choreography by Chris Bailey, illusions by Chris Fisher, lighting design by Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone, sound by Gareth Owen and video design by Finn Ross. Musical supervision and arrangements are by Nick Finlow, with orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, dance arrangements by David Chase, and casting by David Grindrod for Grindrod Burton Casting.
