
EXCLUSIVE: After concluding her six-season run on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Emmy nominee Yvonne Strahovski has found her next project, closing a offer for a series-regular role opposite Vince Vaughn in the second season of Apple TV+ comedy Bad Monkey.
Based on Carl Hiaasen’s New York Times bestselling novel, Bad Monkey‘s second season will present a new original story, the specifics of which are under wraps. Strahovski will play the role of County State Attorney, Delaney. As previously announced, others appearing in major roles this season will include John Malkovich and John Ortiz, who has been upped from special guest star to series regular.
Premiering in August 2024, Bad Monkey‘s first season introduced viewers to Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy, who has taken up a job as a health inspector in the Keys after being bounced from the Miami Police Department. After stumbling upon a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, Yancy realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.
In addition to Vaughn, the first season was led by L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet, Jodie Turner-Smith, with special guest star Ortiz and guest stars Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn and Charlotte Lawrence in her television debut. Hailing from Warner Bros. Television, the show was developed by executive producer and showrunner Bill Lawrence through his Doozer Productions. Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses (Scrubs), Vaughn, Liza Katzer and Adam Sztykiel also exec produce.
Strahovski is coming off the buzziest role of her career, having earned Emmy and Golden Globe noms for her role as Serena Joy Waterford, wife of Gilead’s Commander Fred Waterford, in The Handmaid’s Tale, an adaptation of the dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood. For her work on the show, which returned for its final season in April, she also earned multiple SAG Award nominations as part of the ensemble.
Recently, Strahovski has also exec produced and starred in the Peacock horror series, Teacup. She also made her directorial debut with VLOG, a short film she wrote and stars in, which premiered on Omeleto earlier this month, after screening at the likes of Palm Springs Short Fest and the Indy Shorts Festival.
Coming up, Strahovski will exec produce and star in A Woman of Intelligence, an adaptation of Karin Tanabe’s leading-seller, in development with UCP. She is repped by Paradigm, Sue Barnett and Associates in Australia, Prime Talent Media, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
