Officials have publicly identified the body that was found floating off of New Hampshire’s coast almost three weeks ago as a 35-year-old Boston man.
New Hampshire State Police said Saturday that their unattended death investigation is continuing in Rye but they are able to confirm that David Paul Stover Shader is the person who was found on the morning of July 13.
Police had previously said that someone on a fishing boat spotted a body in the ocean off the Isles of Shoals, a small group of islands several miles from the mainland, and reported it to the U.S. Coast Guard at about 9:15 a.m.
Marine patrol officers responded, located and recovered the remains of an unidentified individual that was believed to be male. Investigators said at the time that they were working to determine the person’s identity, as well as to determine the cause and manner of his death.
Police did not release that information Saturday, saying only that their investigation has yet to fully determine the details of Shader’s entry into the water.
Shader was last seen in the Boston area, according to police, who said his death is not believed to be suspicious, and there is no known cause for concern for public safety in connection with this incident.
All aspects of the case remain under investigation, police added. Anyone with information regarding this case or who may have knowledge that could assist investigators is asked to contact Sgt. Stephen O’Connor at 603-556-3183 or Stephen.J.OConnor@dos.nh.gov.
