
Thousands of women are lacing up their sneakers today for the 49th annual Boston 10K for Women.
The major 10 kilometer road running race, presented by REI, is held annually in Boston on the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend.
“The race inspires women to set the bar high, achieve their health and wellness goals, and go for their personal best,” the website reads.
It’s the largest women’s sporting event in New England, according to its Facebook page.

The course starts on Beacon Street between Charles and Brimmer streets, and runs through Boston’s Back Bay and across and along the Charles River.
The race gets underway at 9 a.m. More than 6,000 runners are expected to cross the finish line.
There are parking restrictions in place for the race, according to the city of Boston’s website. These include:
- Beacon Street – South side (Boston Public Garden side), from Charles Street to opposite Arlington Street Also, please have the Sign Shop post “Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Saturday” signs on the following streets:
- Beacon Street – Both sides, from Charles Street to Clarendon Street, excluding the section of Beacon Street referenced above (Charles Street to Arlington Street, Public Garden side).
- Boylston Street – North side (Public Garden side), from Arlington Street to Charles Street.
- Charles Street – Both sides, from Boylston Street to Beacon Street
The Boston 10k for Women is second longest-running all-women’s sporting event in the World. The event unites runners of all abilities in a dayof strength, speed, and solidarity through the streets of Boston and Cambridge. Because of the support the event has garnered the last 40 plus years, organizers created the Official Charity Program to support organizations uplifting women and kids in Greater Boston; two of those organizations this year are Dignity Matters and Girls on the Run.
