BOSTON – The No.11/10 Boston College men’s hockey team fell to Northeastern, 3-0, on Friday evening in its final ever trip to the historic Matthews Arena.
The Eagles held a 32-22 shots on target advantage, including 13 in the final frame, and went 25-20 on faceoffs, led by James Hagens who went 11-4 from the dot. Louka Cloutier made 19 saves on the night.
Boston College moves to 2-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in Hockey East while Northeastern improves to 5-1-0 and 3-0-0 in league play.
Neither team was able to find the breakthrough over the first 20 minutes, with both teams tallying seven shots on target.
The Huskies took advantage of a man-up opportunity early in the middle frame, scoring on the power play inside the first two minutes of the second period through Amine Hajibi. Northeastern doubled its lead midway through the second period when James Fisher finished from close range. The Huskies pushed the lead to three early in the third period after following up on a loose puck around the crease.
After the Eagles were handed a five-minute major, they immediately killed off the penalty and allowed just two shots on target over that span.
BC outshot Northeastern 13-5 in the final period, but all the attempts were turned away by the Huskies goaltender Lawton Zacher.
