BOSTON — Outfielder Roman Anthony will be one of several Red Sox injured players who will spend this week at the JetBlue Park complex in Fort Myers while Boston plays the Yankees in the AL Wild Card Series.
Boston and New York will play their best-of-three series Tuesday-Thursday at Yankee Stadium. Game 1 is at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday.
The 21-year-old star rookie said Sunday that he has not yet set a timetable for his return from an oblique strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list Sept. 3.
Anthony also said there’s no timetable yet to begin baseball activities. He said he’s doing “light workouts” and “light exercising” as of immediately.
‘We have a really good staff down there and my goal is to worry about getting back on the field as soon as I can,” Anthony said. “That’s the plan and I’m good with it.”
Anthony had been one of Boston’s most productive offensive players for the two and a half months before his injury. He’s batting .292 with a .396 on-base percentage, .463 slugging percentage, .859 OPS, eight home runs, 18 doubles, one triple, 32 RBIs and 48 runs in 71 games.
