
The first residents of Boston’s first conversion of a downtown office building to apartment housing are moving into their residences Tuesday,The six-story brick building at 281 Franklin St. was converted from a commercial property under the Boston Planning and Development Agency’s program, which offered a tax incentive for the conversion. Plans indicated that floors 2 through 6 will have studio apartments and a one-bedroom unit for a total of 10 studios and five one-bedrooms. Two studios and a one-bedroom are income-restricted units under city rules.An elevator provides access to the accessible one-bedroom units. City officials said buildings at 263 Summer St., 129 Portland St. and 615 Albany St. are being converted into residential units.The building on Summer Street will create 77 homes in the historic district of Fort Point, the Albany Street project in the South End will create 24 homes and the project at 129 Portland Street in the Bulfinch Triangle will create 25 homes.
