Mostly clear skies Tuesday night will set up a chilly Wednesday morning. Aside from a few patches of fog in the valleys of northern and western New England, the morning commute will be spent under mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s.

This new pocket of high pressure originated in northern Canada and will continue to push south into New England throughout the day. Very dry and cool air will keep afternoon temperatures in the low 60s for the most part, despite seeing mostly sunny to completely clear skies.
You’ll feel gusty winds as you go about your day, with some gusts reaching 20 to 40 miles per hour, especially in Boston and along the coast.

If you have plans Wednesday night, you’ll want a jacket as the temperatures will fall pretty quickly after sunset. Boston will likely slip into the upper 40s, while areas north and west may fall into the mid-upper 30s. A few spots up north will dip below freezing.
The setup — cool and breezy, but the sun shines bright
A strong Canadian high-pressure system will descend south Wednesday, delivering cool and crisp conditions region-wide, including Boston.
Nearly all of New England will see mostly sunny skies, but the strong high-pressure system will have a sturdy northerly flow, just like going down a slide at the park, to the area of low pressure that wields Hurricane Humberto in the Northern Atlantic. The setup will keep Humberto away, but we’ll feel the forcing winds throughout the day.

The wind will be quite strong throughout the day with consistent speeds near 15 mph, with a handful of gusts between 20 and 40 m.p.h. across coastal southern New England. This will make a cool day feel even more crisp.

With Hurricane Humberto turning east a few hundred miles out to sea, coastal alerts continue along the entire New England coast, including small craft advisories and rip current statements. A handful of crashing waves may reach between 5 and 10 feet.

Aside from the wind Wednesday, this Canadian high holds very dry air which will be refreshing. Dew points will likely be held to the 30s across greater Boston and really everywhere away from the Cape.

With the final day of the month reaching the mid-70s at Logan, the month of September wraps with the average daily high reaching more than a half degree warmer than average.
