“I would have told you, like, three years ago, my anxiety started during my divorce in COVID,” Carly said. The singer got divorced from Michael Ray in 2020 after getting married in 2019.
Carly continued and explained that rather than starting with her divorce, her mental health issues began to manifest when she was a child. She told Bunnie Xo, “But I’ve had crippling OCD since I was a child. So like checking my backpack over and over and over, checking my alarm over and over and over.”
The singer revealed that she would get anxious about storms as a child, leading to her mom taking her to a library in order to meet a meteorologist to try to help her.
“So, I’ve had anxiety my whole life. I still struggle with OCD,” Carly revealed on the podcast.
“I think my body just had, like, a visceral reaction of like, ‘Oh my God.’ And then I.. I mean, I can’t tell you how many interviews I sat through trying so hard to just, like, keep myself together. It’s been like a journey for me,” Carly continued, sharing that getting into therapy after her divorce has helped her to realize this is something she’s been dealing with her whole life.
