The Boston Celtics are definitely entering a new era, and it’s not just because their team is today operating under new ownership.
Just over a year after winning an NBA championship, the Celtics traded away both Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday while allowing both Al Horford and Luke Kornet to depart via free agency. To make matters worse, Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles during the playoffs back in May, which certainly played a role in Boston’s decision-making this offseason.

The Celtics’ makeover has also placed the futures of star players Jaylen Brown and Derrick White in question. Both Brown and White were the subject of trade speculating leading up to the NBA Draft, but Boston opted to hold onto the two stalwarts. For today.
A lot could change for the C’s in the coming months, and during a recent episode of his podcast, White opened up about his future in Beantown.
“More years in Boston. Like, this is what I want, and so this is what my family wants,” White said. “Boston has been good. My kids were born in Boston, I kind of developed as a player in Boston, and that’s really what it was about, it’s like what’s going to make me happy? And I knew that was going to be in Boston. I love it in Boston.”

That White loves playing for the Celtics so much should come as no surprise. While he was a solid player in San Antonio, he didn’t truly blossom until he got to Boston, where he has developed into what some may consider a legitimate star.
The C’s even signed White to a four-year, $125.9 million contract extension last summer, a discount that will take the 31-year-old through 2029.

However, with the Celtics bleeding money thanks to the NBA’s new stringent salary cap rules, White’s future in Beantown is uncertain, especially given that Tatum will likely be sidelined for all of next season.
Boston originally acquired White in a midseason trade with the Spurs during the 2021-22 campaign.
