Dr. Umar Johnson has ramped up his fundraising efforts after a bank froze his accounts last month.
In a new video, Umar pleads with his followers to donate by sending “checks or money orders” to his post office box to support his Frederick Douglass & Marcus Garvey Academy for boys.
“The FDMG Ca$h App is no more,” he tells his followers in the video. Umar is connected to free Wifi in a place that looks like a library.
His failed efforts at fundraising have left Umar in a financial bind.
In August, he complained that the city of Wilmington planned to auction off the school buildings due to non-payment of utility bills and vacant property fees.
Umar owes $76,000 in unpaid water bills. He claims the city didn’t give him advanced notice of the unpaid utilities and vacant property fees.
Critics say the long-awaited FDMG academy for boys became a money pit that took in $1.6 million in donations over a decade.

Last month, Umar offered a “free lunch with the doctor” program to take women to lunch for free – in exchange for a $500 cash donation.
Dr. Greg Carr called Umar Johnson’s fall from grace “a tragedy.”
However, radio host Charlamagne and rapper/activist Killer Mike say Umar is not a failure.
They agree that Black people failed him by not donating to his cause.
“I don’t think Dr. Umar is a failure. I don’t think he’s a failure,” said Charlamagne.
“Anytime you’ve woken up a mind, you haven’t failed,” said Mike.
Charlamagne added, “I think that Dr. Umar set out to do exactly what he said he was gonna do. The school is in Delaware… But what I think where Dr. Umar may have fell short is he didn’t have enough unity in group operations. He wanted to do it all by himself. That’s a tall task.”
Charlamagne may be referring to multiple contractors who offered their services for free to renovate the school – but Umar turned them down.
One person on a manosphere board wrote: “If Dr Umar was really about opening that school he would accept help from the black contractors who tried helping him for free on numerous occasions. He’s not about the school he’s about the money that’s why he keeps asking for donations and don’t want the free help.”
