A 74-year-old Chelsea resident faces a slew of narcotics distribution charges after a raid on his vehicle outside a local Dunkin’ Donuts.
“This case demonstrates the commitment of our officers to disrupt the flow of dangerous and addictive prescription narcotics into our community,” Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton said following the arrest. “Our department will continue to pursue those who profit from those suffering from addiction and work with our regional partners to hold them accountable.”
Ramon Vega was arraigned at Chelsea District Court on three counts of possession with intent to distribute drugs, specifically Oxycodone, a Class B controlled substance; Clonazepam, a Class C controlled substance; and Gabapentin, a Class E controlled substance.
Chelsea Police say that they had investigated Vega on suspicion of narcotics dealing for months before they made their move on Thursday by pulling Vega’s vehicle over on Everett Avenue near a Dunkin’ Donuts. Police say that they found in the vehicle several containers of the prescription medications mentioned in his charges as well as $966 they believe to be proceeds of drug sales.
Police then went to Vega’s home at 17 Irving Street, where they say they recovered another 94 Oxycodone pills and nearly $6,000 in cash.
