A tense confrontation erupted on Chicago’s Southwest Side when local residents reportedly stopped ICE agents from detaining an individual in what’s being described as a mid-abduction rescue. The incident happened near the intersection of 63rd Street and Kostner Avenue and was brought to public attention by journalist Pablo Manríquez.

According to Manríquez, the scene turned chaotic as neighbors quickly surrounded immigration enforcement officers and demanded they release the person being apprehended. In video footage from the incident, residents can be heard loudly confronting the agents while blocking their vehicle from leaving. The standoff appeared to end with ICE backing away from the situation.
At this time, it’s unclear who the target of the attempted arrest was or what charges, if any, were involved. ICE has not issued a public statement, and there’s been no comment from the Chicago Police Department regarding the altercation.
