It might say it’s autumn on the calendar, but Greater Boston saw a quick flashback to summer, with temperatures reaching around 80 degrees and dew points in the mid-60s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue to push through New England this afternoon and evening. This wet weather pattern will continue to remain active for the rest of the week, and possibly into the weekend.
Wednesday will return to more fall-like weather, with cooler temperatures, mostly cloudy skies, and scattered pockets of drizzle or light showers popping up throughout the day. Despite the cooler temps, dew points will remain rather high for another humid day.
The morning commute will be in the upper 50s to low 60s amid some patchy fog. Greater Boston and most of Southern New England may see a shower or two, so it might be best to snag the umbrella before heading out.
Afternoon highs will be very different than Tuesday, with most of the region tapping out in the mid- to upper 60s. Cloud cover this time of year really blocks out the heat of the sun with the lower sun angle.

Wednesday night will continue to see a spot shower chance under cloudy skies while temperatures slip to the upper 50s or low 60s.
The setup — stalled front, cool, shower chance
Tuesday’s cold front will grind to a halt, west to east across Southern New England. This will set up a rather bleak weather day with mostly cloudy skies, a handful of scattered light showers, and cooler temperatures.
Most of the day will be dry, but whatever shower activity develops will be held to Southern New England. Boston may see a shower or two, but precipitation should be rather light.

There will be a weak southwesterly flow continuing into New England, mainly under 10 miles per hour, but enough to keep feeding moisture from the south.
A few spots may see dew points match air temperature, which means that the air cannot hold any more water vapor, and the result is clouds. Some areas across the region may see some low-hanging clouds or more extensive fog throughout the morning.

How long will the rain last? Well, taking a small peek ahead to Thursday, we will see another storm system enter the picture. This will keep the rain chances rather high in the forecast as our unsettled pattern continues.
