The whole build-up is snowballing into a classic that may well be termed an untouchable experience in what is loved by many as one of the most storied places in track. Finally came the announcement from Deadmau5, and good times followed from Joel Zimmerman: “Close to 5 weeks out from Red Rocks! Nov 7+8 tickets/exclusive VIPs available from deadmau5.com/shows 😛 5hr mau5 set! + @deathpixiexx debut… let’s gooooooo!!”
The announcement of the five hours of possible show time is going to be one of the longest given by the creator and thus guarantee an extended tour through his catalog of maybe also new studio material. The once-elusive presence of Deathpixie, this very mysterious project that seems like it’s either animated or is some form of a virtual show act as per theories laid on by curious followers, is but an added layer of intrigue on an already much-anticipated event.
Instantly, the fan emails had started gushing in, many focusing on the excitement over such an extraordinarily long four-and-a-half-hour duration for the show. Another added to the comments: “When the summer dies, the mouse comes out to play,” alluding to Deadmau5’s iconic mouse head branding and the timing of the performance in November.
Then, one began to think about the practicalities of what to wear to a show in the outdoors of Colorado during autumn. “Soo what are we all wearing?” asked a fan. Another chimed in, “It will prob be cold.” Some kept in mind the open setup of Red Rocks and the late fall timing. The practical question then inspired a creative reply: “Let’s all show up dressed as skeletons and call it Day of the deadmau5.”
Presumably, cinephiles will have caught all unique technical elements included in that preview trailer accompanying the announcement. Commenters picked apart the balance of the audiovisual mix, with one user commenting, “This video is left channel heavy,” and another jokingly adding, “Damn my left ear loved this.” Yet a third voice added a truly biting comment, “Thanks for uploading this in mono Joel smh,” which shows the standard expected by that community when it comes to audio quality.
There has been much rumor surrounding the debut of Deathpixie. “Hey Joel. Is anybody gonna be on stage during Deathpixie. Wonder how that works since it’s not a person,” inquired one viewer mystified by the possible stage interpretations. This could be suggesting that Deathpixie may mark a break from traditional live performance and is potentially joining the ranks of animated or virtual elements in view of Deadmau5’s history in cutting-edge stage production.
There have been no unanimously good reviews. Another less-favorable comment about the recycling track offered: “This is just a remix of Animal Rights from your album 4×4=12… kiiiinda lame @deadmau5.” One seconded him/her: “The original Is better for myself thanks Bro,” visibly showing that there remains a vast array of preferences in track even among diehards.
Given that VIP packages are extremely exclusive, a greedy controversy occurs among the fanbase. “VIP is sold out, Joel please make an exception for me, I need 1 more!” pleaded one devastated follower. Another lamented, “I wish I had moni this sounds so fire,” hinting at the economic reasons that could make some fans unable to attend the premium event.
For some, the shows will mark a Red Rocks agenda of the entire year. “I’ll be there! Four years in a row, it’s tradition at this point!” shared an almost follower, who in exchange received support: “Can’t wait year 3 for me!” Therein lies a nod to the consistency of Deadmau5 shows, certainly including his Red Rocks performances.
The announcement made it that hopes were raised for shows beyond Colorado. “Head on back to Calgary for an all ages show. My two-year-old loves you so much he’s being you for Halloween!” begged one Canadian fan, with others mentioning Chile and Brazil ahead, suggesting just how far away Deadmau5 stretches.
