Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, is reeling after a student was discovered hanging from a tree on campus early Monday morning.
The victim has been identified as Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a 21-year-old from Grenada, Mississippi. His body was found around 7:05 a.m. near the pickleball courts, a central spot on campus.
Local authorities, along with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office, and Cleveland Police Department, are handling the case. At this point, investigators say no foul play is suspected, and the death is being treated as a possible suicide.
The university canceled all classes and events for the day, urging the community to come together during this difficult time. Counseling services and support hotlines have been made available for students and staff.
Reed’s official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, which is still pending.
