Maura Healey is planning a crackdown on illegal street car meetups after a series of violent “staged attacks” in the Boston area over the weekend.”I am disgusted by this behavior and will be taking action to support law enforcement and hold accountable anyone who attacks our police and communities to the fullest extent of the law,” Healey said in a statement sent to Newscenter 5 on Tuesday night.Healey went on to call the meetups “completely destructive, dangerous, and against the law.”Healey plans to address the issue in further detail on Wednesday at the State House.The strongly worded statement comes just two days after a Boston police cruiser was burned in the South End.More than 100 people blocked several intersections with their vehicles while throwing fireworks, cones, and poles at responding cruisers.According to Boston police, one cruiser was repeatedly banger with fireworks, causing it to smoke and catch fire.Two Rhode Island men were arrested in that incident.”Do not come into Boston to disrespect our community and cause harm and disorder,” Mayor Michelle Wu said. “These outside groups are not welcome to come and treat our city this way. We will hold those individuals accountable.”
