A media personality DJ Akademiks has announced a posthumous album featuring Lil Keed and his brother Lil Gotit. Akademiks previewed the first single, “IM SO SORRY,” calling it “pure fire.” It is one major track event: the corpse’s musical voice will be delivered to fans and the world after Keed’s untimely passing in 2022.

The hip-hop world suffers a great blow, equating with a heavy dose of emotions. DJ Akademiks, who never hides anything from his audience, floated exclusive news about the coming of a full-length album from Lil Gotit, alongside his late brother Lil Keed. The lead single is out, and Akademiks emphasized to listeners, stating this is something that “has got to be heard.” The caption read: “Long Live Keed”; the brothers really “did their big one with this.”
For some background, Lil Keed is a colorful name in that Atlanta trap scene and was an affiliate of Young Thug via the YSL label. He died in May of 2022 due to cardiac arrest because of a blood clot. Lil Gotit is still carrying on with track, but this is an announcement for a very personal project to preserve the legacy of his brother. The preview for “IM SO SORRY” brings back the syrupy melodic flow of Keed that his fans so sorely miss.
The comments section on Akademiks’ post exploded with conversations, a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and a pinch of criticism, testifying to how much this release means to the people.
One user summed it very well: “I love hearing them together.” Those few simple yet powerful words say so much-how emotionally taxing it is for these brothers to be reunited on a track. For folks who have been watching their careers develop, it is indeed bittersweet.
However, there were dissenting voices: one particularly scathing remark questioned the motivation behind the release, “guy rap career is his brother death let him rest bro.” And there goes the interview again-too often of rap posthumous releases-whether it can celebrate the deceased or is it about profiting off that person’s death.
Another voice stirred even more speculation concerning the album’s making: “Must be off the his brother hard drive he found after he passed.” Often, posthumous album speculations involve questioning where the vocals origina-ted and the artistic process that went into completing a song an musician was not able to finish him-or herself.
“What honor tradition, make sure his name never die #LLK,” one other fan said, moving the discussion towards celebration and legacy. This is the reflection from all other fans who want an musician to live through his art so that their generation will be able to find their work.
Yet, the promotion creates an intersection between the joy of new track and the sad realities of bereavement: a reminder of what Lil Keed represented as an musician and of how much he put into the Atlanta sound. The new single is quite a crucial chapter in an ever-growing history of Hip Hop, whether you’ve been down with Slime Family since day one or are just tuning in. From one brother to another, this album promises to be one of the most intense tributes you’ve ever heard, and from what we hear first, it will be the topic of discussion all through the season.
