
SAN DIEGO — The Red Sox will face former teammate Nick Pivetta on Friday at Petco Park.
Pivetta declined a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer from Boston in November. He then signed a four-year, $55 million contract with the Padres on Feb. 12.
Pivetta has dominated this season. He’s 11-3 with a 2.73 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 3.20 FIP, 136 strikeouts and 32 walks in 22 starts (128 ⅔ innings) for San Diego. He has a 4.0 bWAR. He’s also third on the Padres with a 3.1 fWAR behind only Fernando Tatis Jr. (4.5) and Manny Machado (3.8).
He’s in the 99th percentile in both pitching run worth (30) and fastball run worth (20). He’s in the 97th percentile in breaking run worth (10).
