Police announced that Paul A. Navarro, of Carver, succumbed to his injuries following a three-car crash on Scenic Highway on Wednesday.
A young Carver man has died following a fiery three-car crash that shut down a Cape Cod highway on Wednesday.
Paul A. Navarro, 23, died due to injuries he sustained during the crash, which happened around 1:18 p.m. on Scenic Highway in Bourne, between Edghill Road and Herring Pond. All lanes were closed until 4:45 p.m., after which one lane in each direction remained closed until 11:45 p.m. while officials repaired utility poles.
“We have the unfortunate news of relaying, the operator of the Hynudai, Paul A. Navarro, 23 y/o Carver, MA, succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Our prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Navarro,” the Bourne Police Department said in a Facebook post updated on Thursday.
After receiving 911 calls about the crash, first responders discovered people with serious injuries, as well as people trapped in one vehicle and another vehicle on fire. Responders rendered life-saving care at the scene and transported the victims to local hospitals.
Following the crash, Bourne police said Navarro suffered life-threatening injuries. Investigators said he was driving a 2022 red Hyundai Kona at the time of the crash. The other vehicles involved were a 2010 blue Audi Q5 driven by a 46-year-old Lowell man, and a 2025 Green BMW X1 driven by a 53-year-old Truro woman, according to officials.
Police didn’t release information on the condition of the other people involved in the crash.
The Cape and Islands Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team and Bourne police are investigating the crash.
