
Berkeley, Calif. – Boston College (4-7, 0-7 ACC) fell to ACC foe California (5-5, 1-3 ACC) with a score of 2-1 (4-3 SO) on Friday night under the lights.
With two blocked shots and a successfully defended penalty corner, Charlotte Kramer and the Eagles finished the first quarter of play knotted up at 0-0.
BC was granted a penalty corner in the second quarter and capitalized off it with the first goal of the night from Alex De Cain. Martina Giacchino assisted De Cain with her second goal of the season.
Another defensive quarter kept the score at 1-0 after three. After four consecutive penalty corner attempts by the Golden Bears, Maya Hoepfner snuck one past Kramer to tie up the game in the middle of the fourth quarter. Each team picked up the pace of play but neither could put one in the cage, sending the game to overtime.
No goal came in the first overtime. Each team had an opportunity to score off penalty corners and no one netted in the second as well, sending the game to a shoot out.
Kramer started with two saves followed by made shots from Eva Kluskens and Madelieve Drion. California then made two of their own to send it to sudden death. Drion got another attempt for the Eagles and sank the first sudden death shot. Cal tied it back up then put it away with a second goal to win the game 2-1.
At the end of seven periods of play, California led the game in shots (15-13), saves (6-4) and corners (6-5) while BC had more shots on goal (7-5).

BC will wrap up their west coast trip at Stanford on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. EST before the Eagles start their end of season home stretch with Duke on Oct.17 at 6:30 p.m. in Newton. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network. BC will conclude their regular season play at home hosting UNH for the annual MS Awareness game on Oct.19 followed by Syracuse and Louisville the next weekend.
