Before the ceremony Williams confirmed that there was going to be a planned moment on stage, speaking about his former colleague with Entertainment Tonight.
Williams commented on Dane’s strength amid his diagnosis, which came five months before the ceremony.
“He’s solid, the man’s just solid. We have to be careful as men to still take care of ourselves, and he’s got a perfect balance going. That’s my guy,” Williams said.
The Hotel Costiera star ended up presenting the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series alone, passing it off to the winner, Adam Randall for Slow Horses.
