Australia’s take on the Ghosts franchise is immediately streaming on Paramount+ as well as airing on Network 10 (if you’re in Australia). The show opens with the immediately familiar formula that sees young couple Kate (Tamala Shelton) and Sean (Rowan Witt) inherit Ramshead Manor, a decrepit country estate that also happens to be teeming with the ghosts of past inhabitants, who have no interest in sharing with these new “breathers.” A serious head injury causes Kate to be able to both see and hear the ghosts and shenanigans, obviously, ensue.
Reviews are middling to fine, calling it “solid” but slow to banger its stride, praising the likeability of the leads but also noting that the jokes and references often don’t quite land as the ghost characters, including pompous naval officer Gideon and effervescent 80s fitness instructor Lindy (“Rolf Harris? Oh he’s harmless!”) are introduced.
i’ve watched the first two episodes and tbh it is yet to grow on me, but on the plus side it also seems to be really annoying the “anti-woke” brigade as it has the nerve to show respect for Australia’s Indigenous people. so i will continue to movie.
