Excuse me? Yes, it really has been 25 years since Gilmore Girls premiered, and to honour this milestone, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel came together at the Emmys 2025.
They also presented the award for Best Comedy Screenplay, but we also learned some background details. How true or not they are, we can all decide for ourselves.
The last time we saw Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel together as Lorelai and Rory was in the revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, which gave us little updates on what our series favourites have been up to over the past 20 years.

As presenters for the Best Screenplay for a Comedy Series award, they took to the stage to Carole King’s Where You Lead, the beloved theme song from Gilmore Girls and stood on stage in front of a pretty good replica of the famous porch of the iconic house from the show.
“Twenty-five years ago, a show called Gilmore Girls premiered and obviously took over the season of fall,” Graham said, alluding to the fact that fans of the show often rewatch it every year starting in September. Bledel added, “Despite our fall dominance, Gilmore was actually a very small show.”
Nowadays, the series may be cult, but back then, the budget was rather small. “That is, we had no money,” Graham explained. “When there was a birthday at The Drew Carey Show next door, they would send us their leftover sheet cakes,” Bledel agreed. “We looked hungry.”
If you take a closer look at the first season, you can also see signs that the budget for the pilot episode was rather exclusive.
