A beach on Massachusetts’ North Shore has reopened for swimming after a shark sighting on Thursday.
The Gloucester Beaches account, which is run by the city, posted a beach advisory on Facebook just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday saying that they were closing the water at Good Harbor Beach following a reported shark sighting at Long Beach. The alert did not say if Long Beach is also closed to swimming.
After several hours the city reopened the beach, saying officials had not observed any shark activity.
The city had already issued a beach advisory on Wednesday warning of strong surf and rip currents starting Thursday and running through the weekend as a result of Hurricane Erin.
