After 19 years of marriage, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated. Kidman tried to cut the relationship, but the couple had been apart for months.
Actress and film producer Nicole Kidman and country singer-songwriter Keith Urban have separated after being married for 19 years. The couple has two children together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. While Nicole has two children from her past marriage to Tom Cruise, as well. The Oscar-winning actress and four-time Grammy-winning country singer both grew up in Australia, but they didn’t cross paths until they were adults on the other side of the world. The pair had an instant attraction when they first met at a gala in 2005 and eventually wed in June 2006.
When did Nicole and Keith separate?
TMZ first reported the news, citing sources who said the couple had been living apart since the summer and that Kidman does not want the separation. A source PEOPLE, “Nicole’s sister (Antonia) has been a rock and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” the source said, adding, “She has been fighting to cut the marriage”, talking about Nicole. The reasoning for their split is unclear.
Their once-strong bond
“Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together,” he said in a 2010 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. “I look back immediately and realize Nic has taught me so much and brought so much into my life and opened my eyes in so many ways,” he said. “(This is) the best place I’ve ever been.” The pair was spotted together over the summer in June, watching a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville, Tennessee. During the first concert of his second Las Vegas residency in 2023, Urban performed 2010’s “Without You.” While the country musician sang, footage from his and Kidman’s June 2006 wedding flashed on an oversized screen. They also attended the Met Gala last year together.
Ups and downs in Nicole and Keith’s marriage
Kidman and Urban, who both grew up in Australia, have had ups and downs over their nearly two decades together. They experienced highs with both stars winning and being nominated for best awards in their respective industries. Over the years, they have supported one another, routinely showing up together at award shows and Hollywood premieres for each other. And the lows, months after their wedding, Urban checked himself into rehab for drug and alcohol addiction. Kidman and several of his close friends staged an intervention that Urban said changed his life. The couple said his struggles with addiction made their bond stronger.
