Abbey Murphy had three goals and two assists and Sydney Morrow and Tereza Plosova each scored two goals as the Gophers routed Boston College 11-0 on Friday at Ridder Arena.
The victory completed a season-opening series sweep for the No. 3 Gophers, who defeated the Eagles 7-1 on Thursday. The Gophers, who led 1-0 after one period on Friday, scored four goals in the second period and six in the third.
“So many good things tonight,” Gophers coach Brad Frost said. “As the game progressed, we started moving the puck better. Communicating and working together and getting the puck behind their defense and going to work. Overall, an incredible night.”
Morrow opened the scoring with 12:20 left in the first period.
Sarah Paul’s power-play goal with 11½ minutes left in the second made it 2-0. The Gophers broke the game open with three goals — two by Murphy — a five-minute span.
Plosova’s first goal as a Gopher, with 8:17 left in the period, made it 3-0 before Murphy, who had a goal and three assists in the series opener, scored consecutive goals in a 2:13 span to make it 5-0 with 3:23 left in the first period.
Plosova, Josefin Bouveng and Morrow scored in a 62-second span to give the Gophers an 8-0 lead with 8:39 remaining. Murphy completed her hat trick with 8:03 remaining. Molly Jordan and Bella Fanale scored 56 seconds apart to make it 11-0.
Freshman goalie Layla Hemp, the Minnesota Star Tribune’s Player of the Year last year as a senior at Minnetonka High School, had 25 saves in her Gophers debut.
