
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is expected to speak on Wednesday about her public safety plans in the wake of recent violent incidents. She scheduled her remarks in response to illegal street car meetups after a series of violent “staged attacks” in the Boston area over the weekend.Her statement about public safety also follow a Tuesday demonstration on Boston Common that resulted in injury to four police officers and 13 arrests. Over the weekend, more than 100 people blocked a series of intersections with their vehicles while throwing fireworks, cones, and poles at responding cruisers. According to Boston police, one cruiser was repeatedly banger with fireworks, causing it to smoke and catch fire. Two Rhode Island men were arrested in that incident.”I am disgusted by this behavior and will be taking action to support law enforcement and hold accountable anyone who attacks our police and communities to the fullest extent of the law,” Healey said in a statement sent to Newscenter 5 on Tuesday night.Healey went on to call the meetups “completely destructive, dangerous, and against the law.””Do not come into Boston to disrespect our community and cause harm and disorder,” Mayor Michelle Wu said. “These outside groups are not welcome to come and treat our city this way. We will hold those individuals accountable.”
