EXCLUSIVE: Hannah John-Kamen, the British actress seen in such recent Marvel films as Thunderbolts* and Ant-Man and the Wasp, has joined the cast of One Second After, the recently announced disaster thriller from MPI Original Films, where she’ll star alongside the previously announced Josh Holloway.
Based on the New York Times bestselling novel from William R. Forstchen, the film follows Holloway’s John Matherson, a college professor and former military officer charged with protecting his community after a catastrophic electromagnetic pulse attack cripples the nation. Set in the hills of North Carolina, it follows John as he confronts a world suddenly stripped of power, communication, and modern infrastructure, guiding those around him through life-or-death decisions in a fight for survival.
John-Kamen plays Makalya, a nurse stranded in Black Mountain following the attack. Partnering with John, Makalya fights to keep the community alive as modern society unravels, offering both medical expertise and emotional resilience in the face of collapse.
Veteran stunt coordinator and second unit director Scott Rogers (Tron: Ares, John Wick: Chapter 4) will direct the film, which is a co-production of MPI Original Films (Motherland, Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game) and Startling Inc. (House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones), with production to kick off in Sofia, Bulgaria this month.
J. Michael Straczynski penned the script. MPI’s Rob Pfaltzgraff and Nick Reid are producing along with Startling Inc.’s Matt Kennedy, with author Forstchen serving as executive producer.
Most recently, John-Kamen has been seen reprising her role as Ghost from Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp in Thunderbolts*, where she stars opposite Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour. Again reprising the part in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, her other recent credits include Unwelcome (Warner Bros.), and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (Sony/Screen Gems), as well as Netflix’s The Stranger and Peacock’s Brave New World.
John-Kamen is repped by Scott Marshall Partners, Paradigm, and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
