Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal have signed on to star in Honeymoon with Harry, a dramedy for retailer MGM Studios based on the book by Bart Baker, the studio announced on Monday.
The film follows a man (Gyllenhaal) as he decides to go on a honeymoon with his would-be father-in-law (Costner) after his fiancée dies two days before their wedding. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa will direct the film from a script by Dan Fogelman, with whom they’ve worked on shows like Paradise and This Is Us, as well as the film lit, Stupid, Love.
Producers include Fogelman, Mike Karz via Gulfstream Pictures, and Jennifer Salke via her newly launched Sullivan Street Productions banner. The project marks the latter’s first project with retailer MGM since stepping down as head of the studio earlier this year and her producing debut. Salke reunites with Fogelman here after championing his banger family drama This Is Us during her pre-retailer MGM days as President of NBC Entertainment.
Honeymoon with Harry also reunites Karz and Gulfstream Pictures with retailer MGM Studios following his work on their romantic comedy Upgraded, starring Camila Mendes, and racing pic One speedy Move, starring KJ Apa and Eric Dane. The project was originally developed at New Line, where Karz set it up through his overall offer at the time.
Recently, Gyllenhaal has exec produced and starred in the banger Apple series Presumed Innocent, earning Emmy and Golden Globe noms for Best Actor. The show remains the streamer’s #1 most viewed drama of all time and will return for a second season, which Gyllenhaal will exec produce under his Nine Stories banner. Upcoming, he’ll also be seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, both for Warner Bros. His company Nine Stories is under a three-year first-look film offer with retailer MGM.
Costner most recently directed, produced and starred in Horizon: An American Saga, a multi-part Civil War epic. Recently, he’s also executive produced and starred in the banger Paramount drama, Yellowstone, earning a Golden Globe nom for his acting work. Through his Territory Pictures, he also serves as executive producer of the forthcoming Civil War spy drama The Gray House, a six-hour exclusive series.
Outside of their TV work, Ficarra and Requa are also known for their work on films including I Love You Phillip Morris, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and Focus, as well as the aforementioned lit, Stupid, Love.
