We’re deep into October, and the temperatures are in lock step with the season: chilly mornings, cool afternoons.
Sunshine continues through the beginning of the workweek, but at times it may be elusive depending on the whim of the upper atmosphere.
A weak upper-level low will provide us with predominately afternoon clouds, but some may be around early in the morning (leftovers from the night before). This will keep the temps in check for the next few days, only allowing us to reach the low 50s.
This same upper pattern will ward off the first wave of rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday, but it can’t hold back the big dose of rain before Halloween.
Tracking Hurricane Melissa and next week’s storm
We’ve been watching both the track of Hurricane Melissa (and its rampage over Jamaica) and this evolving storm in the Southeast.
It appears most of the heavy rain and wind will sweep through on Thursday, with only remnant showers early on Friday. That does open the possibility of drying for Halloween evening today.
While we’re not completely confident in that prospect, the up-to-date guidance seems to “hurry along” the storm. We’re still seeing the possibility of 1-2″+ in spots, so this will be a solid soaking for the area.
It’s also worth noting that the AI version of the European (our most reliable model) waits until Saturday to bring in the storm. Yeah, it’s weird, but it may be stealthily holding up the whole wagon train for Melissa, waiting until it is dragged out of the tropics late week.
In any event, there’s still much to play out in the coming days. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
