
EXCLUSIVE: Nope and A Big Bold Beautiful Journey actor Brandon Perea has been cast as the male lead in the next installment of Blumhouse’s Insidious franchise for Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems and Stage 6 Films, we understand.
Perea joins Amelie Eve, Lin Shaye, Misie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell and Island Austin, who were previously announced. Insidious 6 is shooting in Australia under the direction of Jacob Chase, who co-wrote the movie with David Leslie Johnson. Release date is Aug. 21, 2026.
The sequel is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell, with EPs Ryan Turek, Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Johnson. The Insidious franchise counts $740M worldwide through five movies after launching 15 years ago at TIFF where Sony/Stage 6 Films acquired the title.
Perea played the character of Boone opposite Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar Jones in Universal’s summer 2024 tentpole, Twisters, directed by Lee Isaac Chung.
The actor came to attention after his turn in the Netflix series, The OA. He also starred opposite Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun in Jordan Peele’s sci-fi movie Nope. Perea was selected as one of the BAFTA Breakthrough Artists of 2022. He was also honored at the Critics’ Choice 2nd Annual Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television with the Rising Star Award for Film.
The actor can be seen this weekend opposite Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell in Sony’s romance movie A Big, Bold, Beautiful Journey. Perea is represented by CAA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
