
Newcomer Isla Johnston is in talks to play the lead role in Baz Luhrmann‘s next movie!
Jehanne d’Arc is the acclaimed director’s next movie, following the life of Joan of Arc.
Deadline reports that Isla, 18, has been offered the role. The report says that Baz “winnowed the field down to a small group of youngsters before deciding on Johnston.” The role is said to be a “potential career-making opportunity for the actress.”

Isla was previously seen as the young version of Anya Taylor-Joy‘s character Beth Harmon in the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit back in 2020, as pictured here.
The plot of the movie has not yet been revealed, but Deadline notes how “Joan was burned at the stake in the 1400s after leading the troops in the Siege of Orleans and pressing for the coronation of Charles VII as the French king during the 100 Year War. She is considered a patron saint of France.”
Jehanne d’Arc will mark Luhrmann‘s first movie since 2022′s Elvis. He’s also known for directing Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliet.
