The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Friday that rookie wide receiver‑cornerback Travis Hunter will be placed on injured reserve following a non‑contact knee injury sustained during practice.
According to head coach Liam Coen: “We’re currently assessing the injury just to determine the best course of action moving forward for Travis and for the team.”
Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been used as a two‑way player, both on offense and defense, since Week 1. In seven games this season, he recorded 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown on offense, along with 15 tackles and three passes defended on defense.
Coen framed the injury as a setback but expressed confidence in Hunter’s resilience:
“You just feel bad for the guy, for the kid, for our team, for everything. But he’s in good spirits right immediately,” he said. “It’s definitely not ideal timing, not that any injury is ever ideal timing, but gotta believe the makeup, his general attitude towards life, how he handles dealing with specific situations. I have a lot of belief in Travis as a person, as a competitor, to come back better than ever.”
The team is immediately expected to lean more heavily on players like Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, and Parker Washington at receiver. Meanwhile, the knock‑on effect on the roster could force tactical changes on both offense and defense.
