Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo have boarded Cherien Dabis’ Jordanian Oscar Entry All That’s Left Of You as executive producers, in a move announced by Watermelon Pictures and the director’s company Visibility Films which are co-releasing the film in the U.S.
The partners have also released a first trailer for the sweeping multi-generational drama following a Palestinian family over the arc of decades, loosely inspired by the experiences of U.S.-born Dabis’ family, which hails from Palestine and Jordan. Scroll down to series.
Opening in the Occupied West Bank of the 1980s, the drama takes its cue from a Palestinian teenager who is swept into a protest that changes the course of his family’s life.
Reeling from its aftermath, his mother, Hanan, shares the story that led them to that fateful moment. Spanning seven decades, this epic drama traces the hopes and heartaches of one uprooted family, revealing not only the scars of displacement, but the unbreakable spirit of survival.
“I’m beyond thrilled to have two people I deeply admire, Javier Bardem and Mark Ruffalo, join us in amplifying the urgency and importance of this film,” said Dabis.
“All That’s Left Of You takes audiences back to 1948—the origin of Palestinian displacement—and follows one family across nearly eight decades, shaped by political forces beyond their control. It is the untold story of how Palestinians first became refugees, and how that history led us to the present moment. To understand what’s happening in Gaza today, we must first understand the history of how we arrived here.”
Oscar-winning actor Bardem is an outspoken advocate for Palestine, recently attending the Emmys in a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf.
He and Oscar nominee Ruffalo are also signatories of a pledge organized by Workers for Palestine, to boycott Israeli film institutions in protest at Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza which has killed more than 65,000 people.
The military operation was launched in the wake of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks on the Southern Israel, which killed 1,200 people. Its recent expansion has been wildly condemned internationally for the danger it poses to the lives of all civilians in Gaza, including the remaining Israeli hostages who were abducted in the 2023 attack.
“Cherien’s beautiful, intelligent, and deeply moving film All That’s Left of You powerfully captures the true story of Palestine that has never been told before in a way that is both artistic and authentic,” said Bardem.
“As an audience, we journey through the memories of one family across three generations, witnessing their unbreakable bond and unwavering resilience. I am proud and honored to join her in bringing this film to audiences everywhere at this most urgent moment. It is a story that will stay with you for years to come.”
Ruffalo praised the film’s portrayal of the “Nakba” (catastrophe), the Palestinian term for the expulsion of its people in 1948, for its “authenticity, compassion, and grace”.
“It reminds us that even in the face of unimaginable loss, our way forward lies in empathy, in finding meaning in grief, and in choosing humanity over vengeance,” said Ruffalo.
“Cherien Dabis and her remarkable cast have created something timeless and essential, telling not only the story of the Palestinian people, but the universal story of all who have endured oppression, displacement, and violence. This film offers another possibility: the chance to move toward collective healing and a more just and peaceful future. I’m honored to join as an executive producer at such a vital time.”
The third feature from Dabis after Amreeka, May In The Summer, the film world premiered at Sundance and also recently played at Telluride.
Watermelon Pictures and Visibility Films have scheduled a qualifying theatrical run in Los Angeles beginning Friday, November 28, followed by a release in select cities on Friday, January 9, 2026 before opening nationwide in weeks to follow.
