BOSTON — Jaylen Brown went through all of Celtics practice Thursday except for the live action portions, per Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. Brown is considered day-to-day with the left hamstring tightness that forced him to leave Wednesday’s preseason game early against the Raptors.
“I haven’t caught up with him yet,” Mazzulla said. “I expect him to be at his best every single day then we’ll kind of take it from there. Just one day at a time.”
Brown tweaked his hamstring while pushing the pace on a play in the first quarter against the Raptors. While he stayed in the game for a couple possessions, Brown left for the locker room afterwards grabbing at his left hamstring area. He didn’t return to the game, though there was no reason to push it considering it was a preseason game.
The update is at least positive as the Celtics have a few more days ahead of next Wednesday’s season opener against the 76ers. Mazzulla said he hasn’t discussed Brown’s status for the season opener yet. Philadelphia is also going through its own injury struggles with Paul George expected to miss the game.
Brown is set to be the Celtics’ leading guy with Jayson Tatum sidelined for the first few months of the season. While Brown had offseason knee surgery, he’s looked more like his athletic self through through the preseason games. The hamstring is something to monitor, though it doesn’t sound too serious.
