By literally flipping the script, nightly show host Kimmel teams up with Jack Black, Lionel Richie, Tom Holland, and Jamie Lee Curtis in a viral campaign to support the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The idea behind it is to turn upside down the world of kids who are in hospitals—a brief moment of fun and distraction.

In the Instagram post, we see Kimmel and another individual (possibly Black) upside down against a psychedelic striped background. The sight itself speaks volumes for the campaign that requests people to display upside-down pictures to create awareness about Starlight’s programs. “Every day can feel like things have been flipped upside down for these kids,” Kimmel said while encouraging others to rally to the cause.
Quick came the reaction of celebration from everyone, including fans and celebrities, congratulating the entire effort. “We’re about to see a lot of upside-down pictures all over Instagram!” commented one user. Yet another daredly laughed, “Haters will say your upside-down!” The official Starlight Foundation account also entered into the jocular banter with a warm “We love a throwback pic of Jimmy!”
Some responses did, however, divert the spectacle; a Canadian fan took the opportunity: “This is amazing, Jimmy! (Definitely a dream of mine to come to your show one day.” Meanwhile, another user admitted they were momentarily thrown; “It seemed to me my phone flipped upside down for a moment.”
Goofy as this campaign might seem, Starlight seriously aims at alleviating the stress of hospitalization on children and families through its play-based programs. Almost impossible for the campaign to remain under any radar with Kimmel alongside heavy hitters like Black and Richie. Judging by the comments, this internet period should definitely turn upside-down for a worthy cause.
An old-favorite campaign brings up nostalgic posturing from fans, “Two of our best advocates for kids’ health and wellbeing,” said one, while another exclaimed that the energy these two share is contagious, “Leave it to Kimmel & Jack Black to turn the world upside down and make it brighter for kids.”
After mostly positive comments came a time for an observed cryptic statement from one internet user: “Strongest link weakest link 🤓” This just to prove no matter how wholesomely unifying a project can be; the randomness of the internet is a fact.

With the gravity-defying visuals and glamour bestowed upon the campaign, the #UpsideDownChallenge is sure to own social feeds. At least the Starlight Foundation should thank them for this!
