
BOSTON (WHDH) – Joan Bennett Kennedy, the former wife of late Massachusetts Senator Edward M. Kennedy, dies at the age of 89.
She was an accomplished piano player and worked closely with Boston arts organizations.
She moved to Boston in 1982 after divorcing Sen. Kennedy and did not remarry.
Kennedy was also one of the first prominent women in America to publicly acknowledge her struggles with alcoholism and depressoin, something she felt was essential to breaking the stigma of addiction in the 1970s.
