Yashwant Sardeshpande, the acclaimed theater musician and filmmaker in the Kannada theater, television, and film, has passed away in an unfortunate incident. The theater musician died on Monday morning from a heart attack at the age of 60.

Yashwant Sardeshpande was a celebrated theater musician in the Kannada theater industry. On Monday morning, the musician passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 60. He was in Dharwad on Sunday morning, where he performed a play. He reached Bangalore on Monday morning and was taken to Fortis Hospital due to the attack. The filmmaker passed away at 10 am. Yashwant was known for his work and talent. His play, All the Best, which he both enacted and wrote, was very successful and famous. He had worked in the film and television industry as well. Malathi, his wife, is also a very famous musician in the theater and film industry.

Known as ‘Nageya Sardar’ by Shimogga theatre lovers, Yashwant was born in Ukkali village in Basavana Bagevadi taluk of Bijapur district in Karnataka. He had a diploma in theater arts from Ninaasam Theatre Institute in Heggodu. He had also earned a certificate course in cinema and drama writing from the prestigious New York University in 1996. He had directed more than 60 plays, and most of his plays ran for more than 500 shows. Some of his acclaimed works include All The Best, Rashichakra, Olave Jeevana Shakshatkara, Neenaanaadre Naaneenena, Sahi Ri Sahi, Ondata Bhatraddu, Andhayuga, Sahebaru Baruttare, Miss Point, Dil Mange More, and Hingadre Dot Comedy.
He is also given the credit for bringing all of Bendre’s plays to life through Rangavarthula and Bendre Rangavali.
He was especially known for his comedy plays. The theater musician had also directed and prepared programs for television and radio.
Yashwant Saradeshpande had also gotten acclaim and recognition for his work through awards. Some of his achievements include the Rajyotsava Award, which he got in 2010. It is the highest civilian award in Karnataka. Other than that, he also earned the Sunfeast-Udaya Award in 2006 for Best Dialogues for the Rama Shama Bhama film, the Aryabhatta Award in 2003, the Mayur Award in 2005, the Abhinaya Bharati Award in 2008, the Rangadhruva Award in 2008, and the Globalman International Award in 2008.
