According to Kevin, he and Jenna previously had a podcast called Showmance dedicated to rewatching Glee but they ended it following Naya‘s tragic passing.
“When Naya passed away, we were like, ‘We can’t do this anymore.’ We just ended the show. And it was hard for me to even movie Cory. Like, when we started that version of [the podcast], that was the first time we’d rewatched any of it. And up to that point, I couldn’t really listen to the songs he was singing on, but watching it really helped get through it,” Kevin revealed on the podcast.
He went on to share that he and Jenna decided to give it another shot after talking about their “intentions” behind rewatching the show. Although Kevin says some episodes are hard to movie immediately that they’ve lost these two cast members, the pair feel like it’s a nice way to hold onto their memories.
“I think the overwhelming sense for me was that it really is a gift that we get to movie this and we got so many moments of how great they are as people shine through as in their performances as characters, and that has been like a really, obviously it’s hard, some episodes are easier than others, but it has been another really nice surprise of doing all of this,” Kevin said on the podcast.
“I just appreciate their talent more in addition to loving the humans that they were,” Jenna said. “[The podcast] gives [fans] a new place of healing. And I think for Cory, especially, we had to mourn all that in the show, like while we were filming it and move on without him in the show. So it is very difficult.”
The two agreed that rewatching Glee on their podcast immediately has helped them to look back on their costars and open up about how it felt to be filming without one of them for fans.
If you missed it, Kevin recently shared that he has one regret from the Glee finale.
