It’s frankly pretty remarkable when I look at the first nine days of August and realize that the temperature has been 65 or cooler at night the entire time and only one day has reached the 80s. Before Sunday, every day this month featured below-average temperatures — close to 5 degrees below normal.
today, a cooler start to August is not necessarily cool. This time of the year, the average temperatures are quite high, so for many of you, this might have been perfect weather.
For this week, we are looking at heat and humidity, but not as oppressive as we saw earlier in the summer.

High pressure and a southerly flow of air will keep the heat in place through the middle and even to the end of the week. Boston on Sunday already declared a heat emergency for Monday through Wednesday. Other local heat advisories could be issued Tuesday or Wednesday, but it will be a marginal advisory if it occurs at all.
There are heat advisories in interior New Hampshire Monday into Tuesday, and this could be extended into Wednesday. Between the heat and humidity, it will feel in the mid-90s below the century mark that we had last month.

The lack of rainfall is becoming a short-term problem. The only rain we’ve had this month was on the 1st, and Monday will tie the longest stretch of dry weather this year, with Tuesday marking the 11th day without rain for the longest stretch of 2025 so far.
There’s something called flash droughts, which develop in a short amount of time when you have dry, warm weather, and certainly, drought is a possibility the longer this continues.
A frontal system will pass through the area on Thursday. Depending on the exact timing of this determines whether we have another day that reaches 90, or we stay in the 80s. Either way, it looks cooler and dryer for Friday and into the upcoming weekend with temperatures in the 80s and less humidity.
Greater Boston: Look for plenty of sunshine the next couple of days with temperatures near 90 on Monday and into the lower to mid-90s on Tuesday.
Central and Western Massachusetts: Look for sunshine with the temperature within a few degrees of 90 both Monday and Tuesday. It will continue to be hot Wednesday.
Southeastern Massachusetts: Look for dry weather the next couple of days with temperatures approaching 90 on Monday and just slightly above 90 for Tuesday.
Cape Cod and the islands: With a southerly flow of air, temperatures will be in the lower to mid-80s both Monday and Tuesday, along with plenty of sunshine and moderate humidity.
New Hampshire: There’s a heat advisory for southern interior sections with temperatures just above 90 on Monday and Tuesday, and with the humidity, it feels in the mid-90s.
Rhode Island: Temperatures will be under 90 degrees across south county on Monday and Tuesday, but near or a little above 90, especially by Tuesday over inland areas.
