The Los Angeles Dodgers community has offered pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla Vesia, support after their baby’s death.
“Thinking of you all and sending so much love,” the team’s official account wrote via Instagram comment on Friday, November 7, also sharing Alex and Kayla’s heartbreaking announcement via their Stories.
The official Dodgers Nation account also responded, commenting, “Prayers up to your family 🙏🙏💙💙 We all love you guys.”
Alex, 29, sat out of the entirety of the 2025 World Series following a “deeply personal family matter.” (The Dodgers ultimately won the series, beating the Toronto Blue Jays.)
“Our little angel we love you forever and you’re with us always,” Alex and Kayla wrote via Instagram on Friday, revealing that they named their late baby Sterling Sol. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
In the Vesias’ social media statement, they also offered their gratitude to the Dodgers family for their continued support.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” the couple wrote. “Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
Alex and Kayla also sent their thanks to the Cedars-Sinai medical staff members who “helped Kayla and Sterling.”
“Every person we came across was truly so incredible,” they concluded.
Several Dodgers wives shared their own condolences in the comments section.
“Love you guys so much,” Chelsea Freeman, who is married to Freddie Freeman, wrote. “I can’t stop thinking about you and your beautiful angel.”
Kike Hernández’s wife, Mariana Vicente, added, “We are here to hold you guys through it all. We love you all!”
Cara Smith, the spouse of Will Smith, also commented, writing, “Love you all SO much.”
Throughout the duration of the World Series championship, the Dodgers kept Alex and Kayla in their thoughts by wearing team caps with No. 51 — Alex’s jersey number — embroidered on the brim.
“I’m new to the bullpen. But Ves, he means a lot to all of us,” Clayton Kershaw said during a press conference last month. “He’s a huge part of the team, a huge part of the bullpen, so we wanted to do something to honor him.”
The team’s president of baseball operations, Andrew Friedman, also issued his support to the couple.
“We just didn’t want to have any potential for any kind of pressure,” Friedman told reporters in October. “This is so much bigger than baseball. For us, it was doing whatever small part we could to just 100 percent be supportive.”
Alex and Kayla started dating in 2019, getting engaged in November 2022. They tied the knot in January 2024.
“THE BEST DAY OF OUR LIVES! We couldn’t have planned for a better day it was everything we dreamed of and more,” Alex and Kayla captioned a joint Instagram post at the time. “Very thankful for everyone who traveled and made time to celebrate us! LOVE YA’LL -The Vesias ❤️🔥.”
Kayla announced nearly one year later in April that she was pregnant with their first child.
“Baby Vesia coming soon, we are beyond excited for this next chapter,” an Instagram post read.
