A man accused of wrapping a friend’s body in blankets and dropping it off at South Shore hospital after the pair had done drugs together has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Christopher Caron, 42, of Scituate, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in the death of 27-year-old Declan Perry of Portland, Maine. Hingham District Court Judge Marjorie Tynes ordered him held without bail, an order she maintained at a bail breakdown hearing Thursday.
Investigators say that Caron and Perry on Aug. 22 drove into Boston and bought fentanyl and cocaine before returning to a basement apartment at 40 Driftway in Scituate, where Caron had been staying. While there, something went wrong during their binge.
Police say that Caron searched for Narcan, which is a trade name for the overdose reversal drug naloxone, a little before midnight. He and a female friend allegedly gave Perry three doses at around 3 a.m. and then went to sleep. They found Perry dead when they woke up.
Caron wrapped Perry’s body in blankets and duct tape and put him in the trunk of his own car, prosecutors say. He then drove the vehicle to South Shore Hospital, parked it outside the emergency room and fled the area.
